MEDEA S.r.l. is an Italian company with over 30 years of consolidated experience in the management and development of innovative projects in the fields of ICT, connected health and active ageing. MEDEA acts as a vital bridge between scientific breakthroughs and real-world market deployment.
Over the past two decades, our multidisciplinary team has successfully managed dozens of international research projects, generating evidence of the added value of innovative services and support scalability and replicability. MEDEA has recognized expertise in Innovation Management and Project Management of complex projects, the development of strategic growth plans with integrated technical and financial planning, support for organizational change processes, and deployment of innovative solutions.

At MEDEA, our mission is to define clear innovation pathways and support the replication and scalability of successful digital health experiences.
We believe that even the most revolutionary medical device cannot succeed without a solid exploitation strategy, a clear view of intellectual property, and a proven assessment of its benefit to healthcare systems. To achieve this, we operate across two core areas:
- Innovation Management integrating four core activities:
- Impact Assessment: evaluating the multidimensional value and socio-economic benefits of innovative solutions.
- Impact Assurance: analysing regulatory and service-integration contexts, identifying barriers and facilitators, and engaging key stakeholders to support long-term sustainability.
- Exploitation: defining market, business, intellectual-property, and exploitation pathways that enable project results to move towards real-world use.
- Innovation Adoption: supporting the effective uptake, integration, replication, and scalability of innovation within health and social care services.
- Project Management: managing multidimensional and heterogeneous projects in the health and social care sectors, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, complex activities, and diverse organizational and technological perspectives.

Contribution to the ThrombUS+ project
Within the ThrombUS+ consortium, which aims to deliver a wearable, AI-powered point-of-care ultrasound device for continuous DVT monitoring, MEDEA leads the project’s exploitation activities and impact assurance activities to support the solution’s adoption and long-term sustainability.
Our team provides critical high-value services across several key areas:
- Innovation & Exploitation Management: We lead the strategic roadmap for the deployment of ThrombUS+ technologies. This includes conducting detailed market analyses, defining the business model, and outlining exploitation strategies so that the project results can transition from a research prototype to a commercially viable solution.
- Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and Freedom To Operate Analysis: With multiple partners contributing to a single wearable device, protecting intellectual property is paramount. MEDEA manages IPR agreements and conducts FTO analyses to ensure that the consortium can safely commercialize its innovations without legal hurdles.
- Impact Assurance: MEDEA supports the future integration of the ThrombUS+ solution into real-world care pathways. This includes analysing the context; identifying barriers and facilitators to adoption; and engaging key stakeholders to understand their needs and interests. These activities feed into a shared strategy with stakeholders to strengthen the sustainability, acceptability, and scalability of the service.
